The National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of Armenia visited Stockholm and Helsinki

The parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Armenia paid a visit to Sweden and Finland on November 14-17, 2017. The delegation included the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly (NA) Mr. Armen Ashotyan and Chairman of the “Bright Armenia” party and member of “Yelk” (“Way Out”) Faction, Mr. Edmon Marukyan.

Within the framework of the visit to Sweden, the NA delegation met with the Second Deputy Speaker and Third Deputy Speaker of Swedish Riksdag Mr. Björn Söder and Ms. Esabelle Dingizian, State Secretary for EU Affairs and Trade, Mr. Oscar Stenström. On the sidelines of the visit a joint session of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia and the Foreign Affairs Committee of Riksdag was held, followed by the delegation meeting with the Rikstag’s EU Committte.

In Finland the National Assembly delegation met with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Peter Stenlund, the members of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Finnish Parliament, as well as the Finland Armenia Parliamentary friendship group.

Activization of the agenda of bilateral relations in different spheres and further development of EU-Armenia cooperation has been discussed. Armenian parliamentarians presented their positions on regional security, the recent developments within the peaceful settlement of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) issue and Armenian-Turkish relations, the process of Constitutional reforms in Armenia as well as the expectations of Armenia in terms of the further development of relations with EU.

Within the framework of the visit the Armenian delegation met with the representatives of   Swedish and Finnish sister parties who are members of the European People Party (EPP) and Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE).

Armen Ashotyan held a speech in a seminar entitled "Armenia's Foreign Policy: Challenges and Prospects" organized by the Swedish “Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation”.

Furthermore, the delegation members participated in a workshop at the Aleksanteri Institute of Helsinki presenting their insights on the topic "Armenia and South Caucasus: Bridge or Border".
