Working visit to Västra Götaland province

Ambassador of Armenia to Sweden Artak Apitonian paid a working visit to Västra Götaland province of Sweden in October 1-2, 2017.

During his visit, the Ambassador had meetings with the newly appointed Governor of Västra Götaland, Mr. Anders Danielsson as well as the Lord Mayor of Gothenburg Ms. Lena Malm. At the meetings Ambassador Apitonian presented the current state of Armenian-Swedish relations, recent arrangements of cooperation between the regions and cities of two countries. The issues to further cooperation in areas of mutual importance and to promotion of economic, trade and cultural exchanges were touched upon.

In the framework of the visit, Ambassador Apitonian took part in Gothenburg Book Fair, which is the second biggest in Europe. As a main speaker, Ambassador participated at the seminar “Promoting gender equality for sustainable development” organized by “WINNET Sweden” at “International Square” scene of the Fair. Ambassador Apitonian presented the situation and ongoing challenges for gender equality in Armenia as well as the measures taken by the government and the civil society in order to overcome them. The representatives of Women Resource Center “WINNET Armenia” introduced their work in the provinces of Armenia, especially the efforts in the rural areas with the purpose of providing entrepreneurial assistance to women and extending their participation in community life. The Ambassador and the representatives of “WINNET Armenia” also presented the possibilities of expanding the successful model of the organization within the Eastern Partnership countries.

Ambassador Apitonian also met the members of the Armenian community in Gothenburg updating them about the political and social-economic situation of Armenia as well as the recent developments within the processes of the peaceful resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide. With the representatives of community organizations, Ambassador Apitonian discussed the possibilities to get more involvement of the community members in promoting the economic cooperation between Armenia and Sweden.
