Jivan Avetisyan's movie "The Last Inhabitant" screenings in Stockholm and Helsinki

The screenings of Jivan Avetisyan’s movie “The Last Inhabitant” on Nagorno Karabakh conflict were held in Sweden and Finland this week.

On June 2, the Embassy of Armenia and “Hamazkayin Sweden” Cultural Association jointly organized the Swedish premiere of the movie at Stockholm’s Filmhuset. The event was attended by ambassadors and parliamentarians, public and cultural figures, diplomats, intellectuals, representatives of media and Armenian community of Sweden.

Melina Mansourian, Chair of “Hamazkayin Sweden” Cultural Association presented the director of the movie and his works.

Artak Apitonian, Ambassador of Armenia to Sweden in his speech after the screening emphasized the importance of raising international public awareness about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict also through art and movies. He stressed director Jivan Avetisyan’s talent in showing the importance of preserving the humanity even in the most harshest war attrocities. Ambassador also praised Swedish “Apricot Stone” studio for their participation in making of this movie.

At the end, director Jivan Avetisyan answered to the numerous questions of the spectators.

On May 30, the screening of the movie “The Last Inhabitant” has been held at Helsinki’s K-19 cinema, organized jointly by the Embassy of Armenia and “Finland-Armenia” Association. This screening also had a great success. After the screening, a verre de vin was organized by the Embassy of Armenia and attendees had an opportunity to ask their questions to director Jivan Avetisyan.

The next screening of the movie was organized on June 4, in Uppsala, in one of the oldest theaters of Sweden -  historic Slottsbiografen. This screening is also jointly organized by the Embassy of Armenia and “Hamazkayin Sweden” cultural association.

Jivan Avetisyan’s movie “The Last Inhabitant” is the story of deportation and ethnic cleansing of Armenian populated village Gyurjevan (Gyurdzhyuvan) in the early days of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The film is a joint Armenian-Lithuanian production with support from Swedish, American and Lebanese companies. “The Last Inhabitant” was an Armenian nominee to the “Golden Globe” award, and recently was included in the official programme of 2017 Shanghai International Film Festival.
