Pan-Armenian Awards event in Sweden

In a solemn ceremony at the Embassy of Armenia in Stockholm, the Ambassador of Armenia Artak Apitonian handed over the third-grade award in the nomination “The Best Armenian Community” to the representatives of the Ararat Association of Orebrö awarded by the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia and the World Armenian Congress upon the results of the 2015 Pan-Armenian Award “For notable contribution to the preservation of the Armenian identity”.  

The event was attended by the former member of the Swedish Riksdag, member of the Örebro city council Murad Artin, Chairman of the Union of Armenian Associations of Sweden Arshak Gavafian, religious leader of the Armenian orthodox community of Sweden Revd. Fr. Yeghishe Avetisyan, religious leader of the Armenian catholic community of Sweden Revd. Father Hovsep-Khajik Bahi, Chairman of the Ararat Association of Orerbö, members of the community.

Congratulating for the award, Ambassador Apitonian praised the Ararat Association of Orebrö for its activities, cohesion and great contribution to the preservation of Armenian identity, which was highly valued by the Armenian Government and Diaspora organizations. Ambassador noted that due to the efforts of the Association as well as invaluable support of Murad Artin in 2015, the first memorial in Sweden dedicated to the Armenian Genocide was inaugurated in Orebrö, which was initiated by municipal authorities. Ambassador emphasized the importance of continued efforts by the Ararat Association of Orebrö as well as the whole Armenian community of Sweden in revitalizing the Armenian community organizations and preserving the Armenian identity.

The Pan-Armenian Award “For notable contribution to the preservation of the Armenian identity” is annually organized by the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia and the World Armenian Congress to encourage organizations, groups and individuals that contribute to the preservation of Armenian identity in Diaspora and development of community life as well as to appreciate and value the activates of Armenian communities in this field.
