Governor of Lori Region of Armenia and his delegation on working visit to Uppsala

Upon the invitation of the Governor of the Province of Uppsala of Sweden Mr. Peter Egardt, a delegation headed by the Governor of the Lori Region of Armenia Mr. Artur Nalbandyan paid a working visit to the Uppsala Province of Sweden from May 31 to June 1, 2016. The delegation comprised of the Mayor of Alaverdi Mr. Karen Paremuzyan, Mayor of Spitak Mr. Gagik Sahakyan and Adviser to the Governor of Lori Mr. Levon Aslanyan.

The delegation visited the Uppsala and Enköping municipalities of the province and met with the County Director of Uppsala Mr. Johan von Knorring and Mayor of Enköping Mrs. Helena Proos. The development projects of the Province of Uppsala were presented during the meetings with discussion of the prospects of bilateral cooperation.

The delegation also visited a number of companies located in the Province of Uppsala, including one of the largest energy producers of Sweden and number of other European countries Vattenfall, the Destination Uppsala which is mainly dealing with tourism promotion in the municipality of Uppsala, as well as the district heating company Ena Energy AB and municipal biological purification plant and recreation area Vattenparken in Enköping.

The meeting between the Governor of Lori Region and the Governor of the Province of Uppsala took place at the historic Castle of Uppsala which serves as the Governor’s residence. At the meeting, Governor Egardt expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome during his visit to the Lori Region in May 2015. The interlocutors discussed the prospects of enhancing relations between the two region.

At the end of the meeting, the Governors signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of the Province of Uppsala and the Lori Region on promotion of cooperation between the regions through various projects of encouraging exchanges of good practice and knowledge, establishment of friendly ties between institutions and individuals of the regions in the fields of governance, business, ecology, culture, education and tourism, as well as enhancement of contacts and exchanges between the municipal bodies.
