On May 25, the RA TAES First Deputy Minister Vache Terteryan received Sweden’s Uppsala County Governor Peter Egardt, Charge d’Affaires of the Kingdom of Sweden in Armenia Marten Ehnberg and Advisor on Foreign Policy Martin Brozek. The meeting was attended by Ambassador of the RA to the Kingdom of Sweden Artak Apitonian and Governor of Lori Artur Nalbandyan.

This is Peter Egardt’s first visit to the RA TAES Ministry, to discuss prospects of bilateral cooperation between the regions and provinces of the both countries, particularly Lori region and Uppsala province.

Welcoming the guests on behalf of the Minister and the Ministry, V. Terteryan expressed confidence, that raising the Armenian-Swedish relations to a qualitatively new level was a good opportunity. As to administrative and territorial reforms, the Swedish experience could be very useful for Armenia, because radical reforms were implemented twice in Sweden in the 50’s and 70’s in the last century. TAES First Deputy Minister particularly highlighted the cooperation between Swedish Uppsala Province and Lori region, as the two regions were equal, both in territory and in population quantity.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, Governor of Uppsala Peter Egardt noted, that the existing cooperation with Armenia was already in Universities’ level, so it was possible to expand the scope of cooperation in the scientific level, particularly in the sectors of agriculture and environmental science.

Issues related to emergency management were also touched upon. V. Terteryan noted in particular, that the crisis management decentralization was currently being implemented by TAES Ministry, which supposed the improvement of the emergency response efficiency in the regions, and the Swedish experience in this regard could also be very useful.

At the end of the meeting, TAES First Deputy Minister V. Terteryan accompanied the guests to the MTAES Crisis Management Center to present the center’s technical equipment and the management process implementation methods.
