Ambassador Apitonian’s official visit to the city of Uppsala

On May 5-6, Ambassador Apitonian visited the city of Uppsala and had a number of official meetings.

On May 5, Ambassador Apitonian met with Mr. Lars Bäcklund, Chairman of the Uppsala City Council. The prospects of decentralized cooperation between Uppsala and one of the Armenian municipalities were discussed during the meeting. Opinions were exchanged on localization of the experience of urban development programs of Uppsala in Armenia, enhancement of cultural, touristic and business interactions, as well as providing possible assistance for the activities of the local Armenian community.

On May 6, Ambassador Apitonian met with Eva Åkesson, Rektor of the Uppsala University. The two sides have discussed the possible areas of cooperation between the Uppsala University and Yerevan State University, taking into account the leading position of both Universities in two countries and commonalities. The issues relating to exchange of students and lecturers, as well as the ways of facilitating the admittance and study of Armenian students at the Uppsala University were discussed at the meeting.

In the evening of May 5, Ambassador Apitonian met with representatives of the local Armenian community at the “Hay Toun” club of Uppsala. The prospects of cooperation with the Armenian community in the context of Armenian-Swedish relations were the main topic of discussion.
