THE UNION OF ARMENIAN ASSOCIATIONS IN SWEDEN

The Union of Armenian Associations in Sweden (UAAS) was founded in 1993. It is an umbrella organisation consisting of different Armenian associations and unions as well as individual members. The UAAS supports, coordinates and represents the work of its member associations. It also carries out activities of assisting the members of the Armenian community in different social issues. The UAAS cooperates with Swedish and foreign organisations, governmental authorities for the achievement of its goals. The UAAS also actively informs the Swedish people and Government about Armenians and Armenian culture. It carries out a large information campaign regarding the issue of Armenian Genocide arranging various seminars and conferences.

THE ARARAT ARMENIAN ASSOCIATION IN ÖREBRO
The Ararat Armenian Association was founded in Örebro in 2003. The aim of the Association is to preserve Armenian culture for its future generations. The Association has a small area where its members gather regularly. The Association regularly celebrates Armenian national and religious holidays. As of 2005, the organisation has regularly been participating in events dedicated to the UN Day, during which various ethnic minorities represent their culture and cuisine. In 2013, the Ararat Armenian Association with Assyrian Association organised a lecture about the Armenian Genocide at the University of Örebro. One of the speakers of the lecture was the Former Member of the Swedish Riksdag Murad Artin, who had a major role in recognizing the Armenian Genocide by the Swedish Parliament. In addition, the Association cooperates with the oldest Swedish educational organisation NBV (Nykterhetsrörelsens bildningsverksamhet).

THE ARARAT ARMENIAN SPORT CLUB
The Ararat Armenian Sport Club was founded in February 1994 in Uppsala. The Association originally had football and basketball teams for boys. Then, the Club initiated the process of organising basketball teams for girls as well. The organisation has participated in the Korpen and Uppland's Series. In 2003, the Club represented Uppsala at the Pan-Armenian Games in Yerevan. Today, the Sport Club creates opportunities for Armenian young people living in Uppsala to be involved in sports.

THE RAFFI CULTURAL ASSOCIATION IN UPPSALA
The Association was founded in 1987 in Uppsala. The primary goal of the organisation is to create a peaceful and warm environment for its members as well as maintain and raise awareness about Armenian culture for Swedes and foreigners. The aim of the Association is to arrange knowledge-building activities and enhance the community involvement. By reinforcing youngsters' participation in Swedish and Armenian cultural works, the interest and awareness among the youth in cultural and social issues rises. Moreover, the Association celebrates Armenian national days and holidays, organises round tables, seminars, sport activities, trips, banquets and other extracurricular activities. They also provide Armenian language classes an other academic and educational activities.

THE ARMENIAN GENERAL ATHLETIC UNION-HOMENETMEN
The Armenian General Athletic Union is a pan-Armenian diaspora organisation devoted to sport and scouting. Homenetmen was founded in 1918 in Constantinople. Their objectives are met by scouting, general physical education and sports, lectures, seminars and public activities, publications, clubs, gymnasia and sporting facilities. The organisation has established various chapters in the Armenian diaspora including in many cities. Today, Homenetmen has three offices in Sweden- in Stockholm, Södertälje and Västerås.

SPORT AND CULTURAL CENTRE IN STOCKHOLM
The centre was founded in Stockholm 1997. The organisation is a non- governmental entity organising sport and cultural activities. The main aim of the organisation is to maintain the Armenian nationhood. They offer an Armenian Sunday school for children and teach Armenian language, history, literature, dance and chess. The organisation also cooperates with other Armenian organisations and centres in Sweden.

SHIRAK ORGANISATION
One of the main aims of Shirak is to maintain the Armenian language, traditions and culture among Armenians living in Sweden and help them with integrating into Swedish society while preserving their cultural and ethnic identity. The organisation also tries to raise the interest in Armenian culture among Swedish people.

ARARAT CULTURAL ASSOCIATION
The Association was founded in 1990 in Stockholm. It celebrates important anniversaries and arranges exhibitions of Armenian artists. The Association has Sunday classes for Armenian children with classes teaching Armenian language, music, crafts among other subjects. The centre is also responsible for theatre and dance clubs.

ARMENIAN CULTURAL ASSOCIATION OF GÖTEBORG
The Armenian Cultural Association of Göteborg was established in April 17, 1989 with local Armenians being their focal point. Its main goal is to create cultural ties with Armenia and promote the preservation of the Armenian culture within Armenians and other residents of Göteborg. The Association is a non-governmental organisation and does not affiliate to any political union.
